Governor Sarah Palin came out swinging against the “Washington elite” and the media in her debut as the Republican nominee for Vice President. She took a hard shot at Obama, with Obama’s history as a community organizer being mocked by her and other speakers.
I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a “community organizer,” except that you have actual responsibilities. I might add that in small towns, we don’t quite know what to make of a candidate who lavishes praise on working people when they are listening, and then talks about how bitterly they cling to their religion and guns when those people aren’t listening.
We tend to prefer candidates who don’t talk about us one way in Scranton and another way in San Francisco.
Did she accomplish the political goals of the speech? She definitely hit a home run with the Republican base, but what about independent voters? Non Republican women?
Your Honor,
Saw and heard the speech. Definitely a home run. I worry she is beginning to repeat some things and should push on beyond the personal stuff.
I believe she will handle her self well. I worry that the elite, drive by, Democratic media will attempt to trip her up rather than ask issue driven questions. “Governor Palin, Campbell Brown CNN, can you name 3 streets in Minsk?”
But, she has confronted “Big Oil” and hostile political opponents without prepared speech and won. I think she will be OK on the stump.
The Democratic controlled media will be hostile to her in order to achieve their goal of getting Barack Obama elected.

Democratic controlled media? Have you watched Fox News lately?

Derk,
They have a more conservative leaning. Usually they have representatives from the left and right in any issue. Usually ends up in god natured shouting matches.
I assume you watch Fox news so let’s start a discussion.
Name me some of the conservative reporters so we can start the discussion.

Frankly, I enjoyed it more with no audio, and only the video playing…easy on the eyes. 😉

Jim,
I did not think you saw the program.
I have an acquaintance that does not allow the Fox news station in the house.
I tell her, when she comes to my house, that I only allow Fox news.

Ahh, Jules, you misunderstood. I was referencing Palin’s speech, though like your acquaintance, FOX News gets no airtime in this house either.

Jim,
Then you are a captive of NBC News. Tell me, did a shiver run up your leg too when Obama made his first speech?
