Quite a lot of back and forth over the adoption of the federal Common Core standards for education in Massachusetts. It deserves a post of its own, which I will get to. For now here is the Governor hitting Charlie Baker over the issue. Baker has been vociferous in his denunciation of the adoption of Common Core.

Your Honor,
If the Federal Standards are made official for Massachusetts,it will be a huge setback for education in the US.
Deval Patrick is excited about the 250 million that accompanies the law’s acceptance. He cares for nothing else.
You complain that your hands are tied by the state regulation that keeps you from managing the finances of the town. Now you are willing to sell your soul for this atrocity. You will be subject for more federal rule.
I can see it now, you with your grin, Deval and John Kerry who brings a 250 million check (he deducts 450 thousand to cover the Boat taxes).
The people of Massachusetts can’t catch a break. God help us. God help our kids.

Jules,
I need to do more work on this, but I do believe the Governor is catching flak from the left as well as from the right on this matter. And the federalizing of standards may indeed be undesirable, so maybe on this one agree. We definitely agree on the boat.

Your Honor,
The state has been blowing its own horn boasting as to the improvements made in education of our children. “Best in the nation”
Now they are going to put the education of our children into the hands of a federal bureaucrat hundreds of miles away.
Just to get a few million dollars. Just like health care buyouts.
I will be interested in your response.
