Governor Patrick Continues to Lead in Polls

Governor Deval Patrick, in the latest Rasmussen survey, continues to lead his two main rivals, extending his lead over Republican Charlie Baker and showing some solid improvement in his job performance ranking by voters. Patrick is beginning a period of intense campaigning and has appeared to derive some political benefit from the infighting between candidates Baker and Cahill. From Rasmussen:

Patrick earns 35% of the vote when matched against former health care executive Charlie Baker. Baker attracts 27% while Democrat-turned-independent Tim Cahill runs third with 23% support. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided. Baker’s support is down slightly from a month ago.

Patrick has seen his job approval number rise by 7 percent, to 46%. Patrick continues to hold some pretty negative poll numbers, but this survey shows him beginning to move in the right direction. The Globe certainly seems to think so, featuring an article showing the Governor on an uptick politically yesterday.

A good week for Deval Patrick. Read the Rasmussen Reports story here.

Mayor Manzi Names Ron Delli Colli As April's Artist Of The Month

Methuen Artist’s Work on Display in the Mayor’s Office

Mayor William M. Manzi has named Ron Della Colli as April’s Artist of the Month. Delli Colli graduated from the Art Institute of Boston in 1966 and spent 30 years as a professional illustrator before retiring to his home studio. Many of the pieces on display in the Mayor’s Office are part an exhibit he calls “Searles 2002-2007.” The paintings focus on the architectural legacy of Edward Searles who is responsible for many of the castle-like structures seen around the Methuen area. This same exhibit was on display at the Tenney Gatehouse a few years ago. The paintings are very detailed and true to form.

Mayor Manzi stated, “Ron is one of the many talented artists living and working in our community. It is an honor to display his artwork. I am impressed by his vivid depiction of the Searles landmarks that we in Methuen know so well. I encourage people to come to my office and view Ron’s paintings.”

The Methuen Artist of the Month Program was created by Mayor Manzi four years ago in order to give members of the Methuen Arts Community a forum to display their work and to encourage participation in Methuen’s growing and vibrant creative economy. Methuen artists interested in being considered as Artist of the Month should contact the Mayor’s Office.

Governor Patrick Appears on Howie Carr

Governor Patrick appeared on Howie Carr’s radio program yesterday, keeping a promise to engage on right wing talk radio. Carr got in his licks, and the Governor seemed to roll with the punches fairly well.

Cahill and Baker Slug it Out

The Tim Cahill and Charlie Baker campaigns have really begun to focus in on each other, which has to be welcome news for Governor Deval Patrick. With Cahill taking a series of tough stories in the Globe over campaign finance violations, fundraising practices, and management of the Treasury Baker has launched some tough attacks. Cahill has returned the fire, unveiling a new “web ad” attacking Baker directly. The focus of both campaigns, for the time being, appears to be on each other, and on making sure that one of the two is considered to be THE real alternative to the Governor. Even Howie Carr is lamenting the turn this campaign has taken. Governor Patrick has to be smiling.
