National Library Week in Methuen

I was very happy to join with the Methuen City Council and proclaim the week of April 11-17th National Library Week in Methuen. We are blessed with an outstanding library and a truly great library staff here in Methuen. Visit the Nevins Memorial Library and take advantage of the great new facility and all of the wonderful programs offered there. A very special thank you to The Friends of the Nevins Library, who work all year to help make the Nevins the very best Library in the Merrimack Valley.

Here is the citation.

WHEREAS, libraries everywhere play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities;

WHEREAS, our nation’s school, academic, public and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans, today, more than ever;

WHEREAS, libraries serve as crucial technology hubs for people in need of free Web access, computer training, and assistance finding job resources;

WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream – places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning;

WHEREAS, library use is up nationwide among all types of library users, continuing a decade-long trend;

WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week.

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Mayor and the Methuen City Council proclaim National Library Week, April 11-17, 2010 in Methuen. We encourage all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available at your library.

    Mayor Manzi:

    As a patron and a Friends of the Nevins Library, thanks for the great recognition. Libraries are an integral part of any city in any economic times. All political affiliations benefit from the resources at the library. Even my good friends Jules Gordon probably has used a library in his lifetime, right Jules
