The President talks about the government response to the outbreak of swine flu. He is eager to be out ahead of this, and it appears to me that he is. Government response to emergency is reflective of its core competence, and has nothing to do with ideology. This flu may put the President to the test.

Much ado about nothing. Remember when mosquito borne West Nile was to be a threat? Avian flu? Now swine flu?
I agree it’s best to be prepared, but in my opionion, this latest ‘threat’ is being completely blown out of the water and is media hype driven solely by their own erroneous and/or incomplete information.
Who would ever have expected Ron Paul as the voice of reason:

Your Honor,
Nice talk. I challenge your “out in front” comments as anyone who follows news already knows all this.
I also challenge your “out in front” comment, because if he were he would have gagged Joe Biden.

Your Honor,
I owe you an apology. There was some one way “out in front” of this and the president did compliment him. It was the laying in of medication in 2005 by George W. Bush, former federal employee referred too by our magnanimous President as the ‘former administration.’
I love your softball entries. I was looking for the Airforce 1 fly over story, or the great press conference extravaganza, or even the Joe Biden medical minute.

Mr. Mayor, (cough, cough) it is more PC to refer to “this flu” as H1N1. B.O.’s recent trip to Mexico has put him to the test and he showed a FALSE (cough)POSITIVE. Please excuse me while I wash my hands and then I’ll call in “sick”. Oops I forgot, I’ve been laid-off.

Thing is, you never really know how deadly it is until it has spread, and then, it’s too late.
In 1918-1920, the flu strain that went around the world killed between 70 and 100 million people.

The avian flu that ran through Asia a few years ago in 2005 was apparently harder to catch, but fairly deadly: 9% of those infected died. From the front lines …

Bottom line: I’ll keep washing my hands and staying off airplanes for the next few weeks, thanks.

Well Fred I guess you’re a disciple of Joe “Hair Plugs” Biden. In a world with a population approaching seven billion souls, these viruses may be God’s way of “thinning the herd.”
If you’re going to avoid airplanes you should also avoid other modes of public transportation, elevators, taxis etc..
And don’t forget too pull on latex gloves.
Myself, I’m more worried about being turned into a pile of cinders by some rogue state with state with nuclear weapons than what nature can launch against humankind.
