An ad dealing with education by the Obama campaign, highlighting some differences between the candidates. Effective? Whether you like this ad or not Obama must go to the strength he has, and not allow this election to be fought out on terms favorable to Republicans. Education is one area where the public puts more faith in Democrats than Republicans. That is exactly the type of discussion Obama should be doing more of. And that type of discussion can arrest some of the gains McCain has made lately with some key demographic groups. Bring the fight to McCain and Palin, and bring it in areas where the country realizes (and trusts) Democrats more than Republicans.

Your Honor,
Our education system is subject to political ambition and it has suffered substantially.
Like the tar baby in the uncle Remus stories, the more politician interfere in the system the worse it gets. Our student fare poorly against their peers throughout the world.
The only one benefiting from the growing intrusion is the teachers union which seems to have used its voting power to gain benefits within the educational system. The top union headquarters are in Washington to become one of the 35,000 lobbyist.
You have been a witness to the Massachusetts version.
Anyone who thinks that one political party is more beneficial than the other is wrongheaded. They are both disasters.
I have also found these charges of “he voted against __________(fill in the blank)” to be symplistic and mostly misleading.
Your Honor, as long as the education system is in the hands of political institution it will fail our young people.
The only solution falls within the realm of local control and caring parents.

Saw the Obama ad. The day the muti-billion dept of education is disbanded, education will start on a comeback. Centralized Government cannot teach anyone anything.

Well Jules if abolishing the Federal Dept of Education is a good thing then why does McCain run away from that as policy? Why not put it into the Republican plank like it used to be? I just don’t understand why Republicans run away from their true beliefs.

It’s all just one big vicious circle Jules. It’s all about who’s getting the finger pointed at them, and who’s doing the pointing.

Burton invoked Romney because the former Republican presidential candidate indicated to Planned Parenthood in 2002 that he supports the teaching of “responsible, age-appropriate, factually accurate health and sexuality education, including information about both abstinence and contraception, in public schools.”
Prior to Romney’s tenure as governor, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts promulgated a set of K-12 goals for the teaching of sex education. Those standards remained in place during Romney’s time as governor and he did not challenge them.

You guys are right. Republican lost their principles, and their control of congress.
Maybe McCain will get some courage back, but unfortunately his idea of compromise is to do it the other guys way. You guys never compromise unless you are desperate.
Remember, Jim, Romney paid for his waffling in the latest campaign.
