   Mayor Manzi:

   Where I can understand where Governor Perry is coming from. I do not think seceding is the answer. To change it, you change the leadership in Washington from the Congress and the Presidency. Also, A Constitutional Amendment is another option. It will be interesting to see what Jules has to say on this.

   History 101

   Massachusetts proposed secession prior to the war of 1812. Reason? It would interfere with trade with the British.

   Vermont has called for secession for years. Why? Who knows, it’s Vermont.

   Probably others not associated with the civil war as well.

   Texas: he doesn’t like the burden the federal government is putting on the state. However, the idea does not seem popular, yet.

   Gov. Perry may not like the “burden” that the Feds are putting on his state, but he sure does like the service they provide …

   So, I have a question: does every Republican actually think that you can get something for nothing, or is it just the elite few?

   I’ll talk slowly.

   Government services voted into law, are available to everyone.

   Accepting voluntary payments with strings attached is extraordinary. The abusive federal government is expecting all states to take the so called stimulus funds voluntarily. A few refused or limited the amount to be taken. (Not Massachusetts-we suck up as much possible without shame.)

   I like Governor Perry’s objection. I think the civil war settled the matter of secession.

   I have some ideas that might work. First we let Texas secede from the Union. Second, we “discover” that Governor Perry has been stockpiling WMD at hidden locations throughout Texas. Third, we invade. We will not have to worry about the economic costs of an invasion, since after we win the war we will be able to recoup our costs through the sale of the abundant oil that Texas has. Who’s with me?

   All in mayor, and ridding the secessionist country of a few despots might also be in order.

   Shame on me! I just spewed some of the same right-wing vitriol Jules constantly echoes…next I’ll be teabagging!

   I’ll slow down now so Jules can follow along. I believe the point that Fred was making is that for a state whose governor expresses the desire to secede, they sure seem to be awfully dependent upon the federal government. Or maybe I’m not understanding this secession talk. Perhaps they will still believe they are entitled anyway.

   You don’t have to speak slowly on my account. I think I can keep up with y’all, even through the twists and turns of logic. 😉

   The good Governor could have refused all, as I understand it. The funds he’s refusing are the ones that help him politically, or so he thinks: the ones that extend unemployment for his citizens that are unlucky enough to be out of work. Now, I partially understand this thinking, oil patch guys are used to being either flush or broke (at least, they used to be before large oil companies took them over), but to bravely play with other people’s misfortunes for a supposed political gain are to my mind the act of a coward (and with any luck, an ex-governor).

   Don’t worry, though: even the Texas lege has had enough. There are times when I miss living in Texas.

    I judge your plan on the allies you attract.

    Talking about vitriol, you can hear your fellow socialist, Jim, by tuning in to WRKO any weekday morning at 6:00 am and here Jim scream at Tod “I hate you” and hangs up-“slam”. They use the recording to lead into their program. Great radio. Maybe Jim can lead the attack on Texas.

    I just thought of a way that, using your idea of invading Texas, would kill two birds with one stone.

    We put the entire Massachusetts legislation in the front rank of the attack, That would solve many of our problems too.
