Gingrich Threatens Third Party Revolt

Former Speaker Newt Gingrich, in remarks at the College of the Ozarks, warned that unless Republicans changed their “big government” ways, conservatives would bolt and form a third party in 2012. Gingrich attacked the policies of the Bush Administration with vigor. From Politico:

“Remember, everything Obama’s doing, Bush started last year,” Gingrich said. “If you’re going to talk about big spending, the mistakes of the Bush administration last year are fully as bad as the mistakes of Obama’s first two, three months.”

Gingrich’s threat, and more credible threats of a similar nature, will drive the Republican Party even further to the right. The circular firing squad continues on the right side of the aisle.

Hi. As much as I agree with most of Jules thoughts. A third party would be a good idea and potential warning sign to have Republicans move back to their core roots of the Late President Ronald Reagan.

I don’t think that harking back to the Regan years when his honor considered ketchup a vegetable in the school lunch program of children is something worthwhile to hope for.

Regan reigned when America still had manufacturing jobs. Since that time the predominantly REPUBLICAN Presidencies gave HUGE tax breaks to companies for creating more jobs. The problem was they did not have to create those jobs in this country. So…. when large companies went oversees and built new plants and hired new workers they not only reaped the benefits of a much cheaper workforce they also enjoyed immense tax breaks for doing so. WHY would any American citizen hope to see that continue.

    Summer,
You read that right out of the little red book all democrats are issued upon birth. Of course nothing you just said is true.

Gerard, the problem with a third party is that it causes both parties to loose. But, if these idiots who lead us from a majority party to a very minority party are still in power, why would anything be different. It is the Republicans who kowtow to the Majority party who never responds in kind.

It’s too bad we are weak since the President is driving us to Socialism.

We may have to suck up and form a conservative party.

C’mon, Jules: don’t be so harsh on Summer. She sees the light, she understands the issues you’ve been skipping over all these years. She’s absolutely correct in that there are tax breaks for corporations to move jobs overseas, and no corresponding costs for bringing those goods and services back into the US market. American workers, American democracy lose.

Your party is weak, thankfully, because your policies made the country weak: it is up to the current majority party to see if they can revive the patient.

And I was wholeheartedly in agreement with Gerard! Bipartisanship Rules!

    Fred,

Everything you said is unsupported and comes out the little red book.

Work goes overseas to remain competitive. Find me the error of my way from neutral sources.

No such thing as a neutral source in this case. If you need proof that there are tax benefits to move jobs overseas, check out this proposed IBM patent to maximize the effect:

The error in your ways is that your thinking remains tightly within a box of someone else’s making.
