The Jindal Response

The Republicans frame their response carefully, praising the President generally while slamming him specifically. Jindal is one of the rising stars of the GOP, and frequently mentioned as a possible candidate for President. Jindal found himself under attack from Congressional Dems yesterday over the issue of taking the stimulus money for his state. Chuck Schumer claimed that the stimulus money was not “a la carte”, and that Jindal would be required to take the whole package or nothing at all. Jindal had indicated that he would refuse about $100 million for extended unemployment, but take the rest. How do you take the billions offered when you have criticized the bill itself as a big waste of money?

The same way you couch your party response in worrying about our children/grandchildren having to pay this stimulus debt well into the future, while ignoring or conveniently forgetting (just like Jules!) about the previous ‘stimulus’ packages that did the very same thing…

As far as a ‘rising star’? I find myself quite unimpressed…he’s another pubbie party puppet just like Steele.

    Jim:

I was very surprised that he invoked Katrina to illustrate the problems with the Federal government (of his own party). I immediately wondered if any news source has current pictures of the ninth ward of New Orleans so that we can see how that area has recovered.

He doesn’t seem to have “the voice”. I think the GOP will move on soon. Back to Sarah, or on to Mark Sanford?

PS. Chuck Schumer made the point yesterday that states take the money as an all or nothing proposition: no governor sponsored line item vetoes. He can opt out, or opt in. Let’s see what the rest of the party base does.

Here’s NOLA last year at this time:

I happened to be there around March of last year, the tourist areas are cleaned up (Bourbon Street still has a distinctive smell probably not connected to the storm …). I didn’t have a car, though, so I didn’t travel around.

But I’m getting a better sense of Bobby Jindal’s Miracle on the Mississipp.

    Guys,

Jindal is up and coming. A clear speaker and a good governor. Not your type (he is an American Conservative)

Keep you Eye on him when Obama’s world collapses around him.

    Jules.

We’re watching. So far, he’s Mr. Rogers. If this is the best the GOP has, he’s going to be an easier mark than Dukakis …

You’re confirmed, now from the inside of Jindal’s circle.

You’re right, this guy is pretty interesting. At least one LA poster on a Washington Post blog thinks he’s Blago with better hair (misspellings his).

If you wanna know about the guy you are thinging about marrying, a start is to ask a neighbor. I am a neigbor! It is stunning how insightful these comments are from readers in the next town! This is a joke hope it went over well.

All of these comments are bits of truths that add up to the sum total of the truth! Bobby is a young govenor, look at the people he surrounds himself with, they are old money in Louisiana, not diverse, non minority and OLD IDEAS and Politics! He is louisiana politics as usual and you can’t put “Lipstick on an Pig”. He is not a progressive think tanks, or post 20st century.

Jindal’s first executive decision did not demonstrate fiscal conservative values. It was a pay to play scheme. He told the legislators, if you give me what I want, I will give you what you want! It back fired, they wanted raise their pay from 13k a year to 50k a year. The state citizens, bipartism, was outraged and threaten impeachment. He promised he would not support the raise but he would not veto it either. What a jerk! This time He was not working in Bush or Fosters admininstation, it was his so he couldn’t hide on that one. He had to come back to face the public with the “deer caught in headlights look”.

Bobby has done nothing to improve the lives and visibility of Louisiana residents so far, but it has only been a year. He is laying very low and observing and studying Obama. He is going to Iowa and having TownHall meetings and telling folky stories like how he had to deliver one of his baby’s. Not funny!

Like Palin, Gustav allowed him to come out and hog the camara’s on plans that Blanco learned and put in place after Katrina. Bobby has values from India and he is a fast talker that says the same thing each speech. Fiscal Responsibility is his platform. That’s his story and he is speaking to it!
