A new McCain ad, airing in Ohio and Michigan, attacking Obama for his stance on drilling. McCain directly blames higher oil prices on the domestic drilling policies of the United States, which he supported and helped to implement as a Senator. The bad economies in Michigan and Ohio need only extra drilling to be turned around. What nonsense.

Your Honor,
The problems in Ohio and Michigan is related to the health of the automobile industry. The industry is imploding in large chunks (10 to 15% at each measure). The price of oil is a component in this problem. Yes McCain did fall for the environment lobby as did the entire Democratic party.
McCain sees the light now and Obama is unflinching in his insistance that the oil stay in the graound.
Drill here-Drill now is the call. If Obama wants to keep the oil from American use, then let him take risk and the rewards of this stance.
Your honor, it is not nonsense.

It most certainly is nonsense, and of the highest variety. Lets take this from the top.
1) We all agree that Michigan and Ohio have troubled economies.
2) Their economies were in a bad way BEFORE the escalation in oil prices.
3) I agree that high oil prices have made a pre-existing condition worse.
4)Obama has said that he would sign a bill allowing additional drilling.
5) Dropping all restrictions on domestic drilling would likely have no impact on prices for many years, likely in the ten year range.
6) Republicans, and you, have said that while point five is accurate Democrats should still be blamed because they have been opposed to drilling for ten years: therefore if that policy were not in effect prices would today be lower because we would have had a greater domestic supply.
7) John McCain joined Democrats for the past ten years in opposing additional drilling, and I believe he still opposes drilling in ANWAR. Therefore by your logic McCain and the Democrats are responsible for higher prices. And since both Obama and McCain are willing to allow additional drilling now the idea that John McCain is promoting an oil policy that will help Michigan is a canard, or as I posted earlier, “nonsense”.
8) McCain has been opposed to the development of any alternatives, opposing tax credits for wind and solar while supporting tax breaks for big oil.
Tell me which of the points listed above are wrong.

Your Honor,
Issue 1. We agree. Problem largely due to dismal management and abusive labor. All self inflicted.
2. True but necessary because of lost sales to imports. (See issue 1). Now that the housing bubble and oil price spike has landed the problem accelerates.
3. we agree
4. Pshaw. He will restrict it just as Nancy Pelosi has. “You can drill in the mid-Atlantic ridge with dull drills”. There will be conditions to satisfy those eco-terrorist that hold our country hostage.
I’ll bet a coffee on that one.
5. Wrong again Mr. mayor. Dropping restrictions would effect the speculators who buy on future value of the commodity. Prices will deflate with the potential of added capacity. They already have with President Bushes lifting the restrictions.
6. Correct, if I read you right. Government should not control or restrict harvesting resources. Government interference, whether right or left cannot solve problems.
7. You get that right. That is why we are mad at McCain. He is shifting his view though on things more to the right.
Whether reduce oil prices will help Michigan is problematic. I believe Michigan has many other problems self inflicted.
Now let’s clear up one thing; Jobs have been going to foreign countries for years. The electronics, TV, and appliances went to Japan in the 50 and 60’s because our business people were arrogant. Computer manufacturing has gone to other countries from before Clinton.
How can we solve anything when we can’t analyze it properly. Even then a political solution is impossible due to competing interests.
