Clinton and Obama End Truce

Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama took off the gloves at the Democratic debate in South Carolina yesterday, exchanging accusations and insults. This exchange comes after party elders reportedly urged former President Clinton to tone down his criticisms of Mr. Obama. South Carolina is a major test for Obama, and a loss there, while not necessarily fatal, will hurt severely. With both sides sensing the critical nature of this contest get ready for some heavy artillery to be launched in the next couple of days.

    Was there ever a truce?

The Clinton campaign has unintentionally pushed itself into a corner. Now, as a result of this ridiculous racial debate, she will be pressured to choose Obama as her running mate to unite the party should she win the nomination (which would be a dream for idealistic liberals like myself, but probably not for Hillary and Bill).

If this continues, it is going to become increasingly difficult to beat John McCain in November.

Believe me – John McCain’s got enough flip-flopping and Bush lallygagging in his recent history that no matter who the democratic nominee might be, McCain WILL NOT win.

After the past seven years of sucking up to Bush, he might be able to fool the short-term memory deficient republican base with his phony sincerity, but there’s no way that in year eight he will now fool America simply because he distances himself from the Bush baggage. And let’s not even get into the fantasy discussion about a McCain/Lieberman ticket …

    A different look at this.

Which Democratic Candidate can claim to be a “uniter and not a divider” now?
