An ascendant Romney

With all of the hits I have been taking from our Republican friends it is time to say some nice things about a Republican. It has been reported that both Rudy Guiliani and John McCain have withdrawn from the August straw poll in Iowa. Such an announcement brings us to the obvious. Both expected an old fashion whipping from Mitt Romney in that straw poll, and Rudy does not want such a beating to tarnish his frontrunner status. McCain recognized that with Rudy out he would be mano y mano with Mitt, and choose to cut and run rather than face the defeat. Romney has been quietly and efficiently picking up steam. He has been methodical, and has simply outworked and out-hustled his two major rivals in Iowa. Say what you want about Mitt, but he has put together a great field operation. An Iowa win, followed by a New Hapshire triumph for the Mittster, and that momentum train might be hard to stop. By the time Fred Thompson realizes what hit him he will have train marks on his back. While he ponders Mitt works. Can Mitt be stopped?

    “Can Mitt be stopped?”

Oh please God, yes! This guy’s a bigger flipper than Kerry could ever be made out to be. In essence, McCain, Giuliani and Romney’s campaign message is simply “four more years”. Time for a moderate Republican which even this staunch democrat finds refreshing and inviting. http://www.ronpaul2008.com/

Mitt’s the GOP nominee in ’08. I’m an Obama supporter, so I’m rooting for the Mittster to win his party’s nomination so he can get steamrolled in November. Watch out for Mike Bloomberg…if he enters, the Democrat will have an even stronger showing in November.

Interesting about Bloomberg. How about that potential independent ticket of Bloomberg/Hagel. Even though Bloomberg is registered R his politics are more liberal. Does that ticket help the Democrats or hurt them? I am not sure yet how that impacts.

I think that the Democrats will be more united than ever. The Republicans will split up and Bloomberg will become a Ross Perot figure, but I think he’ll do much better than Perot did in ’92. Do you think it’s possible for Romney to come in third – something which hasn’t happened to a Republican nominee since Taft in 1912?

Great story on this subject today in the Boston Herald talking about Mitt’s methodical drive for the nomination. It is at http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=1006991

Speaking of Bloomberg he has changed his party affiliation from R to unenrolled. Is this step 1 in an independent run for President?
