Tom, You’re Out!

Tom Daschle today withdrew from consideration as HHS Secretary, bowing to the mounting pressure from his tax problems. President Obama accepted Daschle’s withdrawal with the requisite “regret”. Obama also had Nancy Killefer withdraw from consideration for the job of Chief Performance Officer for the White House. Killefer apparently had tax issues as well. President Obama will now need to quickly retool his HHS selection, as this Daschle matter has set him back in a key portfolio. Daschle also resigned as the White House health Care czar, a post that did not require Senate confirmation. Hope the vetting operation sharpens up a bit for the next HHS nominee.

    I’d go for Howard also!

maybe all these tax problems with our politicians will help to prove how utterly complicated & bizarre our tax codes are…time for a major overhaul once the dust settles from the financial crisis? I’m not giving Daschle or the others a pardon on their tax problems – however, can any of us really say we understand everything about the returns we file each year?

    Fred,

Joke going around; Why are Liberals not afraid of tax increases.

They don’t pay them. Yuk, yuk.

Sometimes I have a good day. Today is one of those. I got a 2fer.

    Your Honor,
I guess 58 questions on a questionier is not enough. They out to add, “Are you a crook?”

Agree entirely. Just beware of the flat-taxers. There is such a thing as too simple.

My personal favorite is to spend multiple days putting together a normal return, then having to do it all over again for AMT, just to make sure I’ve paid enough tax.

I hope they’ve raised the AMT outside my tax bracket (and into Jules!)

    Linda,

You hurt me to the quick.

What do you find wrong with the flat tax.
No AMT. Sounds like youo don’t like to fill out the paperwork for the income tax.
