A special congressional election in Mississippi’s First Congressional District was won yesterday by Democrat Travis Childers. This district has been considered safe Republican, and the Democratic victory (the third straight Democratic special election victory) set off alarm bells within the Republican Party. Rep. Tom Cole (R-Okla.), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, sounded an alarm for all GOP candidates “to take stock of their campaigns and position themselves for challenging campaigns this fall” while lashing themselves to the presidential candidacy of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). “The political environment is such that voters remain pessimistic about the direction of the country and the Republican Party in general. . . . Time is short,” Cole said in a statement.
The panic should start now for Republicans. Bush won this district by 25 percentage points, and the former Republican Congressman from the District won re-election with 66 percent of the vote in the last cycle. A key component of the Republican strategy here was to link the Democrat Childers to Barack Obama in a conservative district. The Republicans spent about 1.8 million on ads in this area, and they did not appear to gain any traction for their candidate. The Democrats spent about the same, and showed a willingness to back a candidate who is pro-gun and anti abortion. That wave on the horizon is getting bigger, and it appears that many Republicans will be carried out to sea in November.

I have heard all this stuff before. You sure you did not “copy” some news report.
It’s curious, your honor, Republicans think they have to run as a liberal (give away stuff) and Democrat has to run as a conservative (pro-Life, pro gun, etc) to get elected. The GOP has already thrown in the conservative towel. It’s your year. Heck, I learned John McCain is giving in to the Global Warming Fraud.
After being for open boarders and amnesty for illegal immigration, I may vote for Ron Paul.
As I told you before, it’s your year enjoy. Wait until the folks find out what this will cost. Nancy Pelosi is already pandering with huge spending increases, all to fix her power.
Hope the folks will have enough money left over to afford you next tax increase.

My only worry here is that if Obama wins the office and the Democrats have majorities we are going to run into some of the same problems the first half of the current presidency had related to just voting the party line to push things through as opposed to compromise (or hell, even reading the bill. I swear they just vote for things without reading them, like the Patriot Act)

Mr.Mayor how do the Democrats do it? I felt “chill-ders” down my spine to read a Democrat won in a safe Republican district. And they backed a pro-gun and anti-abortion candidate! Pragmatic Politics, a la Obama. Vote early, vote often it’s the party slogan.
